Technical Assistant

James is a trainee patent attorney in Cleveland Scott York’s mechanical and electrical practice. He works closely with Fraser Brown and Adrian Bradley, helping to prepare and file patent applications, and working on prosecution before the UK Intellectual Property Office and the European Patent Office.

James has a background in mechanical engineering, which means he is well suited to dealing with a range of mechanical, electrical and software technologies.

Following a sponsored dissertation titled “reducing product liability risk through design”, James worked overseas in China to implement product redesigns and manufacture of electronic and pressure vessel related products. Additionally, he monitored production and assembly of FMCG injection moulded components for worldwide distribution.

James has experience working with government funded projects across multiple fields of research and development technology, gaining a wide exposure to new and innovative ideas and an ability to quickly understand inventions. James has worked with technologies across many areas, notably; robotics, manufacturing, consumer electronics and 3D printing.

Prior to joining Cleveland Scott York, James completed a PGCert in Intellectual Property Law whilst working as a Design Consultant.
