As a result of our growing practice we have a vacancy for a finals standard or recently qualified patent attorney with a background in engineering (ideally electrical and electronic engineering), physics, or a related discipline.

We have a range of work to offer but our particular need is to service a major multinational client in the engineering sector from which we receive both UK-originating drafting work and US-originating EP filing work.  This client is putting increasing volumes of work with us and is satisfying to work with.  They are involved in the electrical generation and combustion engines sector and increasingly in green alternative technologies including electric vehicles.  The work involves, mechanical, electrical, electronic and software technologies.  In the future you will have the opportunity to develop your practice in the direction that you want to go.

Cleveland Scott York offers a highly professional, but friendly, supportive and inclusive working environment with a strong belief that everyone should be able to achieve a healthy work-life balance while seeking also to reward those who turn out exceptional performance.  For example, the firm had home-working staff long before the Covid pandemic, and we also always try to accommodate requests by those who would prefer to work part-time, and indeed from those who want to increase their hours again when circumstances change.   We are about to move into new London offices that will be well suited to the “hybrid working” that we expect in the future, while being large enough to accommodate those who decide to work in the office every day, and we also have a modern office in Hatfield, Herts, with lawns and lake views (and ducks!), into which we moved just 4 years ago.  The successful candidate could be based in either office or could be home based.

We really care about all our staff and are looking for people who enjoy being part of a team while also being able to concentrate on complex work when that is what is needed.  You will need the exceptional written communication skills that are a given in the profession, and well as effective spoken communications.

We are proud of the diversity of our team and we especially welcome applications from candidates with backgrounds that are under-represented in the IP profession.
