CONTENT: Investors prefer startups with patents. A well-structured patent portfolio offers a significant competitive advantage, and provides concrete evidence of innovation. The filing of patent applications in the seed or early growth stage is associated with a higher likelihood of subsequent VC funding, with a 6.4 times higher likelihood of funding for startups that filed for patents.

It is therefore important that research conducted within startups is optimised to generate intellectual property. The talk will focus on strategies to analyse your existing IP and plan future research to disclose areas that may have been overlooked using a more traditional approach. The session will include case studies of how this approach has been used successfully in the fields of biotechnology and pharmaceuticals.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
Patent portfolio managers; in-house counsel with responsibility for patent budget; technology transfer managers at universities and research institutes; patent strategists.
