Nick is a Patent Attorney working in the fields of chemistry, mechanical inventions, pharmaceuticals, and medical devices.

The core of Nick’s practice is patent drafting and prosecution before the European and UK Patent Offices. However, a substantial portion of his work involves advocacy in Oppositions and Appeals before the European Patent Office. He frequently provides freedom to operate and infringement opinions, due diligence and analysis of competitor’s patents, and prepares client’s portfolios for litigation in the UK courts.

As well as having an excellent grasp of the detail, Nick enjoys being engaged with the commercial picture. This enables him to give proactive advice and to add value throughout patent prosecution and opposition. This is particularly appreciated by overseas attorneys on their European matters, and by Cleveland Scott York’s clients when protecting their inventions abroad.

During his studies he undertook research into the laser induced dissociation of ozone molecules. This background in physical chemistry gives him an excellent understanding of the fundamental science behind a wide range of technologies.

He spent time based with a firm in Los Angeles during 2016/2017, which gave him some valuable insights into US practice.
