Laura has almost twenty years of experience working in the patent profession.  After graduating from UMIST with a Masters degree with Honours in Engineering Manufacture and Management, Laura has worked both in private practice, and as an in-house patent attorney.

After completing her training at Scott & York IP in Hertfordshire, Laura worked as an in-house patent attorney for a multi-national automotive parts company, at a manufacturing plant in Kent.  Working in industry provided Laura with an invaluable understanding of the lifecycle of an idea from an inventor’s point of view, and of the complexities of IP strategies within a technology company.

After relocating to the North East, Laura spent a number of years working back in private practice before joining Cleveland Scott York in 2023.

Laura has substantial experience of drafting and prosecuting patent applications in the UK and Europe, and in working with attorneys in overseas jurisdictions to prosecute patent applications worldwide.   She is also experienced in dealing with infringement and validity opinions, patent enforcement advice and litigation, competitor activity analysis, patent box, and patent portfolio management.

Laura has gained experience across a wide range of fields, including automotive technology (fuel injection equipment, fuel pump apparatus, powertrains, flywheels, energy recovery systems, and amphibious vehicles), manufacturing systems, oil and gas, offshore and subsea technologies, renewable energy, transactional systems, and medical and dental devices.

Laura is a Chartered Patent Attorney and a European Patent Attorney.
